Commentics I think another thing we could do is work together with landscape gardeners in the area and see if they can resort to planting more drought-tolerant native plants for private homes. Although planting drought-tolerant plants in cities is crucial I think another issue is that people are uneducated when designing yards and homes and ask for the prettiest or most colorful plants instead of ones that might use less water and are not invasive.

There needs to be "carrots and sticks" to get rid of useless commercial lawns and replace with drought tolerant native plants. These save water, are beautiful and provide critical habitat to many creatures which are struggling to survive.
